Uncork a bottle of wine and take a seat on the private lanai facing the sea. In front of you, a meticulously landscaped, vivid green lawn leads to the churning, deep-blue Pacific. Just a few steps from the condo, you’ll find beach access to the golden sands and glittering shoreline of the Coconut Coast.
But, to be honest, many resort condos on Kauai—particularly those on the level of high-end Waipouli Beach Resort & Spa—can claim stunning views and beach access.
What sets this condo apart?
Simply: as an avid traveler myself, I worked to create the kind of contemporary, minimalist sanctuary I love to stay in—with boutique touches for travelers who understandably want beautiful accommodations to mirror their beautiful surroundings.
ORIGINAL ART AND MINIMALIST DESIGN
I’m most proud of the original art in the condo—ten one-of-a-kind works by the gifted San Francisco artist Ronald Chase, who combines painting, watercolor and collage to an astounding effect. Chase has been a working artist for the last 50 years, and has the national and international acclaim to show for it.
To compliment the art, I handpicked contemporary furnishings that are both design-forward and comfortable.
Epicureans, you’ll love the gourmet kitchen. Walk across the street to the market to get your meal’s ingredients and then have a blast cooking on granite countertops and high-end stainless steel appliances including a Sub-Zero refrigerator, Wolf cooktop and built-in convection oven. Or check out the resort’s BBQ grill for searing your fresh catch.
THE BEST BED YOU’VE EVER SLEPT IN
For me, an important element of good design is the eco-friendly use of natural, non-toxic materials and fabrics.
Like the bed in the condo’s master bedroom. It’s a king-sized platform with modern, clean lines and a handmade mattress by Haiku Designs (give them a Google for more info)—comprised of natural latex, organic wool, and cotton that all work together to conform to your body and unique sleeping style.
Then, the whole thing is topped off with natural, organic bed linens in cotton and Tussah silk, plus a set of organic, hand-molded Talalay latex pillows.
Seriously—you have to try this bed.
And don’t forget the advantages of three bathrooms. There’s one for each bedroom and a third to make sure no fights break out at shower time. Soaker tubs, travertine floors and walk-in showers make the en-suite bathrooms even better.
ABOUT THE CONDO’S LOCATION
Because the condo is set apart from the resort’s swimming pool and beachfront restaurant, only the breaking surf is your soundtrack. Not human traffic.
Speaking of the pool, it’s totally unique for Kauai and feels almost a part of the landscape. It’s heated, fresh-water, and has manmade geologic features like a lazy river, a pool with a cave, two waterfalls, 3 sand-bottomed whirlpool spas, and a sandy beach area for your little ones.
After a day in the sun, walk a few steps from the condo and sit down to dinner at Oasis on the Beach. This gourmet beachfront restaurant serves 90% local dishes and is known for their fresh fish, like the seared catch with sweet potato pureé and truffle vinaigrette.
If you’re itching to get out and explore Kauai…good news. The east coast bike path and bike rentals are just a two-minute walk away. Exploring on two wheels is a great way to take in Kauai’s beauty in a sustainable way, plus work off your authentic Hawaiian dinners in the meantime!
Another option: the beginning of the beautiful Mountain Giant hike is just a 5-minute drive away from the condo.
If you’re a surfer, talk to me and I’ll let you know the secrets (I get away to Kauai for my own surf break whenever I can).
When you get back from your outdoor adventures, indulge in a massage at the 5,000 square foot oceanfront spa at the resort.
